Easter Learning Journey Day 1

Easter Learning Journey Day 1

Activity 1: Take a photo of yourself and a special object that you would pack and take with you if you were to travel around Aotearoa and the world. A special necklace, book, soft toy, a photo, special stone or shell? Post image in a blog post, introducing yourself to your audience AND an explanation as to why you would travel with this object!

This is a necklace that is special to me the reason why this is special to me is because my mum gave it to me as a present when I was eight. This isn't some sort of family heirloom or something it's just something my mum gave to me. When she was a teenager she won this from a competition, and I take this wherever I go.

Activity 2: Go here to the NZ tourism page and pick out 3 interesting facts you learn. Re-write in your own words as a second post for today!

Early Voyages: About four hundred years ago, this was before Christopher columbus and the rest of europe was worried and terrified that they were soon to fall off the earth our ancestors from way back decided to voyage thousands of miles in the enoumas unknown pasific ocean with just small ocean-going canoes. Those voyagers became the first inhabitants of New zealand Meaning they were the first ever people to find Aotearoa.

Mateship on the sporting field: In New Zealand the most popular sport is Rugby. People remember this sport like their birthday, everyone knows who plays who the winners and losers are. What brought this sport together was the mateship that they showed. This sport is so common around Aotearoa that even schools play tournaments. The first thing that comes to mind when spoken about rugby is the all blacks and how they recently won the rugby world cup (but this was before COVID-19 bagan)

Become one of the locals: visiting new zealand is a great experience especially when you meet a nice calm local. who knows maybe you guys might end up being great friends. You can have a good old chat with these kinds of people at a bar, restaurant or even just at the bus stop. The great thing about having a local friend is you can ask them any time if you need help or if you just want to know what the community is up to.

Activity 3: Go here, your journey starts here in Auckland. Watch and pick out your favourite 3 activities you’d like to do. List them on your blog with a quick explanation as to why you’d like to try them out! nm

The first place I would go to is the sky tower for bungee jumping. The reason I would like to go bungee jumping on the sky tower is because I have never experienced bungee jumping and when I do go I want to get the best and closest experience.

The next place I would visit is Rainbows end. You don't necessarily need a reason to go to the rainbows end but the reason I would go there is because I went there for a school trip in 2019 (last year) It was a blast, and I had the best time of my life.

The very last place I’d visit is mission bay. Why I would want to go to mission bay is pretty simple, YOU GET TO SWIM, FOR FREE! And you can play volleyball or any sort of beach games you can think of.

Onion Cells

Aim:
Finding a clear picture of onion cells?

Hypothesis:
The magnification I think we’ll be able to the onion cells is 40.

Equipment:
  • Onion
  • A glass slide
  • A cover slip
  • Tweezers
  • A blue stain
  • A microscope
Method:
The first thing you need to do is get your pair of tweezers and peel a small amount of onion
skin, you want to peel one layer of onion skin and put it on your microscope slide (if you do
n’t know what it is search it up). After you put your onion skin on your put some saline
water to flatten your skin on your slide. When your done put your blue stain on, then lastly
put your cover slip on so you don’t have to wait for it to dry.

Observation:
At ten times you can still see the outline of the cells. The onion cells look a bit like fly wings
with dots in the middle.

Who am I?.

Who am I?

Walt: create a structured recount with correct tenses and punctuation.

Today my class played a game of who am I. If you don’t know what who am I is it is a game where you have to write someone's name on a piece of paper. Then you put this on your partners head and help them guess who it is.

Miss Parrant's instructions were we had to get a piece of paper and write someone’s name on it. Then we gave this piece of paper to our partner and they had to guess who it was. We were only allowed to use yes and no to answer questions.

Next we got our partners and grabbed a piece of paper off miss Parrant. Then we all spreaded out around the classroom so knowoneelese could tell us what’s on our head.

My partner Jerreka could not guess who she was. Jerreka got really nervous and had wasted 8 minutes guessing who she was.Jerreka had Justin Timberlake. She had know idea it was him. She exploded with joy and happiness when she got is right.

When it was all over we sprinted to Miss Parrant and gave her a our piece of paper. I felt really happy that Jerreka found out who she was just in time.

Marshmallow Challenge.

Marshmallow Challenge

Walt: create a structured recount with correct tenses and punctuation.

Have you ever heard of the marshmallow challenge. Because my class did it today.our teacher Miss Parrant got us to get into groups of four or five people max.

First Miss Parrant gave us the instructions of how to do the challenge. The first instruction she gave us was that we can only have 18 minutes to build a tall tower and put a marshmallow on top. You can only use 20 bits of raw spaghetti, string and tape you will also need some scissors to cut the tape.

Next we got up and started to look for a table so we could start the challenge. The first thing did to start building was a long stick for the marshmallow to go on top. Then we built the base with most of our pastor and we put it together with tape. Sadly we forgot we had string to use.

After all of that we tried putting the base on and the long stick with tape. We were able to put the marshmallow on top but the pasta broke. After all that disaster we lost and anther team won.

Room 8 did the marshmallow challenge.  Miss Parrant told us how to play. We got into groups of five and we had 18 minutes to build a big tower for a marshmallow to go on top. The taller the tower the more chances of winning. But you can only win if your tower can stand on it’s own.

Creative writing.

Creative Writing
One sunny autumn morning my friend Leilani came over to my house in the weekend. When she came we decided to have a walk in the forest that was near my house so we packed our bags with snacks, water bottles and phones for any emergencies. Then we went into the forest to get some fresh air. When we left in the forest we heard lots of noises like the little twigs breaking beneath our shoes and birds singing “Wow it’s so pretty here” said Leilani. After a while walking in the forest we both started to get tired and hungry so we sat down by a tree that was nice for us to sit down and eat our snack. Once we sat down we felt lots of leaves under our bum’s. When we were eating our tuna sandwich we started to get really thirsty so we had a drink of water. After we ate our sandwich and water we carried on with our walk in the forest. As we walked Leilani and I  saw lots of big and beautiful trees we saw a big log just right for both of us to sit on it. I made a fire for me and my friend Leilani out of sticks and spare paper that was left in my bag and two rocks that were by the lake but we went on the sand so the fire could light up. The lake was a beautiful green lake  with a tint of blue and delicious looking fish that we could bring back to my house so my dad can make the best roar fish ever as always but sadly we had know fishing rods or fishing hooks. When we were in the forest I said “It’s starting to get really dark I think we should go back to my house Leilani” “I think so too” said Leilani. So Leilani and I headed back home. When we got to my house we opened the back door to my house we smelled some delicious mashed potatoes and roasted lamb. Then my family and Leilani sat down to eat. After we all finished eating we all got really full. After dinner Leilani’s mum showed up to pick up Leilani. Then my family and I went to bed.
