Mixing dish soap and milk.

Aim:  What will happen if you mix full fat milk and dish washing liquid together?

Hypothisis: Milk and dish soap is like water and oil, it will not mix together. Dish washing liquid is made to clean and erase fat from your dirty and greecy dishes. With that said the dish washing liquid will try to seperate the fat from the milk.

Equitment:

  • A wide plate
  • A few cottonbuds
  • Full fat milk
  • Dish washing liquid
  • Food coluoring.

Method:  When we did this experiment we had to do 3 steps.
Step 1, pour the milk into your wide plate until it fills the whole plate.
Step 2, Put drops of different food colours.
Then put some dish washing liquid onto your cotton bud.
Step 3, then dip your cotton bud into the plate.

Observation:
When we dipped the cotton bud into the milk we saw the food colouring move to the side of the plate, as if it was running away from the cotton bud.

Conclusion: This happened because the dish washing liquid separated the fat from the milk, so we saw the milk separating or moving as this was happening.

Onion Cells

Aim:
Finding a clear picture of onion cells?

Hypothesis:
The magnification I think we’ll be able to the onion cells is 40.

Equipment:
  • Onion
  • A glass slide
  • A cover slip
  • Tweezers
  • A blue stain
  • A microscope
Method:
The first thing you need to do is get your pair of tweezers and peel a small amount of onion
skin, you want to peel one layer of onion skin and put it on your microscope slide (if you do
n’t know what it is search it up). After you put your onion skin on your put some saline
water to flatten your skin on your slide. When your done put your blue stain on, then lastly
put your cover slip on so you don’t have to wait for it to dry.

Observation:
At ten times you can still see the outline of the cells. The onion cells look a bit like fly wings
with dots in the middle.

Genomics Fun Day!

Today The team 5 block had a Genomics fun day. Two different schools came to visit us, Glen Innes and Glen Brae. While they were coming in we were singing some school waiata's. When both school's arrived Villiami and Sky did the karakia and mihi. Then we (the pt england students) went back to our classes, Glen Brae and Glen Innes split into groups around the block into each class, then they joined groups that were prepared that same morning. When they split into their groups that they wanted to join,we all had to introduce ourselves. In our group we had five people, Monica,Daliz,Chritina,Me (jordin),Reece and pifeleti. After we introduced and said what inspired us about Genomics we went to the street and Jannie (yani) and Mr Terry asked us questions and we had to jump up and answer it, if we got it right them we get a prize. When it was time for morning tea We got to have sandwiches, cookies, fruit and juice (Raro). When morning tea was finished we had another team quiz and we got asked 15 questions that were on a peice of paper. Someone from our group had to go to the panel ( the judges, that judged the scores and answers) and tell them our group name, And I had to go up,so that when we tell them the answers to the questions they know witch group got it write. Our groups name was Chocolate biscuits. Our team lost because we forgot to take our answers up. When we went into the street for a couple more prizes the two schools left.

how to be a good learner.

How to be a good learner?

Are you a good learner? This essay will explain three different ways to be a good learner.Working Hard,Collaboration and Concentration. Being a good learner is having different personality traits.

Working hard should be something you always do. An example of working hard is, don’t just do your best when something is easy but also do  your best when times are hard, speaking of time while you work you can manage time to finish your work early. The harder and the more you work, the better you can be.
A good learner is a collaber. Collabing can help you with ideas. Collabing is when you and a friend get together and bring up some ideas for your writing. When you collab with someone and get ideas you can put them into words then later into a full essay.

Concentration is being a good learner. When you work a good thing to do is concentrate and to not have any distractions. If you cancetrate you will learn more. For example, if you pay attention and concentrate on the teacher you could actually know what to do when your doing your work.

In conclusion being a good learner require focus. Once you finish university and get a good education, who knows maybe you can be a Teacher in the future or even better, the president of the USA.

Animal Testing

Animal testing

Do you want your family pet to die from animal testing? it’s a tradedgy that over 2 million animals die from animal testing. This essay will explain why animal testing is used, why it should be band and why it is so cruel.

What is animal testing:

Animal testing is a cruel thing to do. Depending on the experiment, animals could be tortured by being injected with drugs, be forced to wear makeup or skin care and they could even be operated on! Imagine if this was being done on your beloved family pet! How would you feel if this happened to them?

Banning Animal Testing.

Is animal testing necessary? Not only is animal testing cruel but sometimes it dosen’t work. some animals have different allergies to us humans, so if the medicine is tried on the six different animals it might not work on people . this is such a waste, these animals don’t need to be tortured every year for our sake. Animal testing needs to be banned.

Why do we do animal testing.

Do you know why scientists experiment on animals? Well they need to test on animals to make sure that the products are safe. Every year scientists test Rabbits, rats, mice, monkeys, dogs and cats, surely we can find another way to examine things to make cure’s for us human’s.

To conclude animal testing is a bad thing not just for animals but for humans as well. Animal testing must be band forever. We must find something else to use to test our medicine on, and make our world safe again.

Do we really need school holidays?

Do we really need school holidays?

Do you enjoy your school holiday? Is your holiday long enough for you? This essay will explain why we need school holidays. Children need school holidays to Relax,Spend more time with their families and to get ready for school to start again.

Relaxation:

Children need holidays to relax.for example, young kids can have a break from all the stress and play with their toys,And the big kids can spend more time during the school holidays. If you at school for too long you could over work yourself. Holidays could also be used for more family time.

Family time:

The school holidays is a chance to spend time with your family. For example,In the holidays you can spend more time with your family and just take a break from the hard work at school. Even though you have weekends to spend time with your family that’s just 2 days, and we need more time with them, you could go on a trip overseas or go camping. After your trip you could come home a bit early and get ready for school.

Refresh:

After relaxing and coming home from a trip you could get ready and refreshed for school. For example after a two or three week break away from school you can come back to school all refreshed and ready to learn. After a full term of school you could get exhausted, but if you have a holiday break you could be more excited for school.

To conclude having holidays are important because children need to relax, spend time with their family and lastly to refresh before going to school.

what is the purpose of coming to school.
